Candy Bowl Mixed Zinnia will produce copious blooms in a variety of colors and styles on heavily branched plants. This is an easy to grow annual that will reach 24-36" in height. Zinnias will happily reseed in an area where they are happy. Plant in full sun to partial shade. Here at Dry Heat Gardens, we've noticed a considerable increase in Swallowtail Butterflies since adding Zinnias to our garden!
Growing Candy Bowl Mixed Zinnias:
Sow zinnia seeds indoors: 4 to 7 weeks prior to your last spring frost in cell packs or flats, press into soil and lightly cover. Kept at 75°F., seedlings emerge in 3 to 10 days.
Sow zinnias seeds outdoors: in spring after all danger of frost into prepared beds in ¼ in. deep furrows, 4 to 6 seeds per foot. Cover and keep soil surface moist.
Thin seedlings to 9 to 24 in. apart depending on the type of zinnia grown.
Zinnia plants started from seed in midsummer put on an impressive fall display.
Full sun. Best zinnia performance in rich, well-drained soil with regular water. Easy to grow, plants love the heat, will tolerate drought, and are resistant to deer and rabbits. Bloom is continuous over an extended summer and fall season, and the bright flowers attract hummingbirds, bees and butterflies!
Zinnias are among the finest of cut flowers, and mix well with other traditional flowers in a homegrown arrangement. Typical vase life is 7 days, which can be extended further with the use of flower preservatives. Zinnias will retain their shape and color if allowed to dry out after cutting.
*Please Note* Because our seeds are harvested by hand, without the use of machines, a small amount of plant matter may be present in the seed packets.
Originally founded as a landscaping project to create habitat for hummingbirds, Dry Heat Gardens is a small gardening company providing plants and seeds for Southwest gardens. Everything is grown on our property and harvested by hand. To protect our hummingbirds and all of our backyard friends, we never use pesticides or herbicides of any kind.
Our home garden is located in Los Lunas, New Mexico. Every day begins with watering, weeding, pruning, seed collecting and product photography. Every seed and plant that we sell has proven itself to thrive in our hot and dry desert conditions. We never resell plants or seeds from 3rd party suppliers.
We carry flowering trees such as the Desert Willow and Bird of Paradise; both annual and perennial flowers such as Cosmos, Zinnias, Marigolds, Hollyhocks and Bearded Irises.

Head of Cultivation
I am DeAnna Vincent, professional photographer and lifetime gardener. In 2017, my husband Johnpaul and I purchased five acres of property in Los Lunas, New Mexico and I immediately set about creating a backyard sanctuary to attract hummingbirds. My project was very successful and not only did I create a wonderful habitat for hummingbirds but I also had a yard full of beautiful plants producing copious quantities of seeds. The abundance of seeds became the inspiration for starting a gardening company and Dry Heat Gardens was born!
